My Heart Is Not Ready

While setbacks come at no surprise to us anymore, we were still not expecting to hear that Craig’s heart, which has shown strong and healthy in many tests, has taken a pretty big hit from July’s Fever Fest.  His heart is now operating at 30% its normal strength.  While the doctors are optimistic that it should return to normal functioning, this disqualifies Craig from transplant until that time (up to several months).  Craig’s heart would not be able to withstand the chemo/radiation/medicines involved in the transplant.

Craig has a couple of prescriptions to lower his blood pressure and relieve some of the strain on his heart.  Other than taking those and visiting the hospital clinic a couple times a week, Craig’s duties include resting and eating…

Sounds relaxing, eh?  Always lurking in the back of our minds is the fear that leukemia will return once again during this waiting…  We try not to let that thought drive us crazy, but it is a very real possibility.

On the upside, Craig’s Uncle Craig and Aunt Cheryl will be visiting at the end of the month for 10 days.  With some free time gained, Craig will be able to enjoy this time fully.

Thanks for reading our updates and for the wonderful comments!

Love,

Kat and Craig
